WHO ARE THE SIOUX ?

The Sioux are a Native American Tribe and First Nations Band Gorvernment in North America. The Sioux Indians actually came to North America from the continent of Asia abot 30,000 years ago. The name Sioux means "little snake", which was given to the tribe by the Chippewa Indians.

• SIOUX NATION HISTORY​

​The names of the most famous chiefs who led the Sioux Tribe into battle were : Sitting Bull, Red Cloud, Chief Gall, Crazy Horse, Rain in the Face and Kicking Bear.

The Sioux nation were the largest off all the Native Indian tribes. During the migration west to the Great Plains (North America) the tribe split into three divisions : The Lakota, Dakota and Nakota. They all means "Allies" or "Confederates".

The Lakota Sioux : noted fr their warrior culture, they were from the west and consisted of seven bands. The Lakota were the major opponents of the US Army during the Sioux War. They were also known as TetonWan/Teton.

The Dakota Sioux : they were from the east and consisted of four bands. The Dakota Sioux were also known as Isanti/Santee.

The Nakota Sioux : also known as the Ihanktown, were the smallest division located in the east and consisted of three bands.
